Name 3 skills that come into your mind when you say project manager.
- Planning and organisation
- Good communication
- Scope management
That’s usually why would you need a project manager isn’t it?
Before we move further, we need to clearly define what is the difference between a project and a service.
A project is a one time product / service delivery with an unique result. A project done every quarter (eg newsletter) is not a project anymore, but a service. A service that you do all over again, following the same steps, for each client. It might be customised, but is the same product/service you offer. A project manager can help you setup the processes for your operations, but your operational team has to ensure all the operational work.
At Ideas Highway we think that project management skills are actually something that EVERYBODY should have nowadays. Every team member in a service delivery business should know:
- Who the client is: understand the client needs helps a service based team to improve the product they develop in order to satisfy better the client requirements
- What has to be done: what are the services that an individual team member has to deliver to
- How to plan the own work in order to achieve the client requirements
When it comes to services, all these things aren’t a one profession skill set anymore. They are a team must have skill set.
Does your team have project management skills?
